Take part in the Men's 10k this November

Published 26th Oct 2016

To celebrate Forth 1’s partnership with the Men’s 10k Edinburgh this November, we have checked out the route and here are our top 5 things you will see along the route!

1. The Royal Mile The Men’s 10K Edinburgh starts right in the city’s historic city centre. As the name suggests the distance is approx. one ‘Scots mile’ (longer than an English mile would you believe!) which is the distance between two of Edinburgh’s most famous historic locations – Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace.

2. Holyrood Palace The Palace of Holyroodhouse, commonly referred to as Holyrood Palace, is the official residence of the British monarch in Scotland. The Queen is in residence at the Palace of Holyroodhouse during Holyrood week, which usually takes place from the end of June to the beginning of July, be sure to give her a wave as you run past just in case she is home in November!

3. Holyrood Park Holyrood Park is a unique historic landscape in the heart of the city, whose dramatic crags and hills give Edinburgh part of its distinctive skyline. The park contains a wealth of history and archaeology spanning thousands of years.

4. Grassmarket First mentioned in 1363, the Grassmarket was, from 1477, one of Edinburgh’s main market places, a part of which was given over to the sale of horse and cattle (the name apparently deriving from livestock grazing in pens beyond its western end). Don’t worry though, you will not have to dodge cows to dodge while enjoying one of the most iconic views of the city.

5. BT Murrayfield Stadium What a place to finish the Edinburgh Men’s 10k – the home of Scottish Rugby and the Scotland rugby team – BT Murrayfield Stadium! Opened on the 21st of March 1925, Murrayfield stadium has a capacity of over 67,000 rugby fans and is home to the Scotland rugby team and Edinburgh rugby.

Imagine the roar of 67,000 fans for an RBS 6 Nations match as you enter the stadium and cross the finish.

Don’t forget there is still time to register for the Edinburgh Men’s 10k!
