An investigation's been launched after a dog walker was assaulted and robbed in Tranent in broad daylight.

It happened in the Blindwells area close to Meadowmill at around 12.30pm last Saturday - although details of the incident are only just emerging.

A group of men pounced on the male victim - causing him to suffer a facial injury.

He was able to make his way down to the roadway near to Mid Road in Prestonpans, where he managed to flag down a passing motorist.

Officers are now looking to speak to anyone who may have seen the incident, the man walking with his black lurcher or a group of men with dogs.

The dog was initially missing following the attack, but has now been reunited with his owner.

Detective Constable Kenny McKenzie from Dalkeith Police Station said: "The assault left a man with a facial injury and I'm keen to trace those responsible.

"I would like to hear from anyone who was in the area around noon on Saturday or who saw any suspicious vehicles parked in the area."
