Three women arrested in connection with Midlothian teen's death 'liberated from custody'
They were due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.
Three women who were arrested in connection with the death of a 16-year-old girl in Midlothian who had allegedly taken a lethal ecstasy pill have been liberated from custody.
The females - who haven't been identified - were set to appear today at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.
The trio - who are aged 43,17, and 16 - were detained by police investigating the death of Shellie Callaghan, of Newtongrange, last Saturday.
Officers are concerned that Shellie may have taken a toxic narcotic which caused her to die at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary Hospital.
Detectives warned people about the dangers of taking "red Bugatti Veyron" and "Purple Ninja Turtles" pills.
They also arrested the three women in connection with Shellie's death and the females were expected to appear in private on Tuesday afternoon.
However, prosecutors decided to liberate the three accused before they appeared in court.
Last night a Crown Office spokesman said police were continuing to probe the circumstances of Shellie's death.
He added: "After full and careful consideration of the facts and circumstances of the case, they were liberated from custody and did not appear in court.
"The report remains under consideration."
