Thousands of homes have been left without heating in sub-zero temperatures after a gas main failure in the Falkirk area.
Properties in the Carronshore area, Stenhousemuir and Larbert are affected.
Customers are unhappy about the lack of information from Scottish Gas Networks.
They’ve said engineers were working to fix the problem but there was no timescale for when gas would be restored.
Electric heaters and cookers were being offered to elderly or sick customers, and those with young children.
Temperatures in the Falkirk area were well below zero overnight and remained at minus 2C on Sunday morning.
Sarah Jane Chew from Falkirk said: “It was about seven o’clock this morning that we first noticed the problem.
“The gas started flickering on and off and then it went off completely.
“We’re not getting advice and information on the website is quite vague.
An SGN statement says: "Around 8,000 homes in Carronshore, Larbert, Skinflats and Stenhousemuir are without gas today, after a fault at our gas governor. A governor is a piece of equipment that regulates pressure in our gas network, ensuring the gas reaching your home is at the correct pressure.
"This issue is affecting many, but not all, properties within the FK2 and FK5 postcode areas.
"We have engineers on site and we’ll be opening a customer incident centre in the local community in the next few hours. We’ll provide details here once it’s open."
