It happened on the 11.09pm Dunblane to Edinburgh Waverley service last Friday.
A teenager has been sexually assaulted on a train by another passenger.
The 17-year-old was on the 11.09pm service from Dunblane to Edinburgh Waverley on Friday when the incident took place.
She was sitting in the middle carriage of the train and shortly after it left Larbert, a man who was sitting in the seat next to her placed his hand on her legs twice.
Train staff were alerted and were able to help the youngster move seats away from the man.
Officers are now appealing for information.
The suspect is described as white, 5ft 11in, aged in his late 20s with strawberry blond hair.
He was wearing a Christmas jumper and jeans at the time.
PC Andrew McAinish said: Everyone should be able to travel on the railway network without experiencing unwanted sexual behaviour.
I would like to commend the victim for reporting what happened to her. She was very shaken by the incident and an investigation is under way to identify the offender.
Any behaviour that makes you feel uncomfortable on the railway will be taken seriously by us and we encourage everyone to report incidents like this so that we can take action.''
