Holidaymakers flying from Edinburgh Airport this summer could face major disruption, as ground crew threaten strike action in a dispute over pay.

Unite the Union has warned that unless a better offer is made by Menzies Aviation, it will move to ballot hundreds of workers at both Edinburgh and Glasgow airports for industrial action during the peak holiday season.

The union says staff at Edinburgh Airport - including dispatchers, airside agents, and controllers - have unanimously rejected a 4% pay rise offer, branding it "unacceptable."

Carrie Binnie from Unite said: “Summer strike action looms over Edinburgh and Glasgow airports because the pay offers on the table from Menzies Aviation aren't good enough. If the company fails to table a better offer, we will have no option but to ballot for strikes.”

At Glasgow Airport, 97% of around 300 staff also rejected a similar offer worth around 4.25%.

Unite General Secretary Sharon Graham added that Menzies Aviation is enjoying “sky-high profits” and must offer more to the workers who keep the airports running smoothly.

Menzies Aviation has been contacted for comment.
