Oxgangs Primary School in Edinburgh is being closed until the end of the Easter holidays because of concerns about the safety of the building.

The school was badly damaged by the storms in January and the decision to shut the building was taken after a further survey was carried out earlier this week.

The city council says the pupils will be educated at other schools from Thursday and parents are due to be given details of the alternative arrangements this afternoon (Weds).

Councillor Paul Godzik, Education Convener, said: "By closing the school now it means the necessary works can be started immediately.

"The Council will be providing alternative arrangements at other locations to ensure pupils’ education can continue until the start of the Easter holidays.

"I want to reassure parents this is a purely precautionary measure but I am sure everyone will agree that the health and safety of our pupils and staff is paramount."
