A six-year-old boy has been seriously injured after being hit by a van in Fife.

The collision happened on High Street in Aberdour at about 6pm yesterday and involved a Mercedes Sprinter.

The youngster was taken to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, then Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where he is in a serious condition, police said.

The 46-year-old driver was uninjured.

Sergeant Jim Henry said: A young boy has sustained serious injuries and we're working to establish the full circumstances surrounding this collision.

We've already spoken to a number of witnesses but are urging anyone who has not yet come forward to get in touch.''

The road was closed from the A921 to the B9157 to allow emergency services access but was later reopened at 10pm.
