Six Arrested During Legal High Crackdown In Newington

Six people have been arrested as part of a crackdown on anti-social behaviour and legal highs in Edinburgh's Southside.

Officers launched Operation Austinburg have complaints from residents about people taking the substances and causing trouble in stairwells and common gardens.

Council wardens, university security officers and housing association staff have supporting local police.

They focused on place where drug abuse had been reported and two specific properties were targeted in coordinated house searches in Nicholson Street.

Joint patrols then took place around Edinburgh University buildings and stair checks and clean-ups were carried out with council staff in the Newington area to deter drug use.
