Police reckon the same gang is behind two raids on shops in Edinburgh and Midlothian.

The latest happened early this morning (Thurs 17 May) when three men in balaclavas smashed the window of Sainsbury's on the Capital's Shandwick Place in a failed bid to steal a cash machine.

The ATM was pulled from the wall but, as the picture above shows, it was left lying in the street.

It's thought the same gang broke into a shop in Roslin during the early hours of Wednesday.

An Audi Q5, stolen in Kirkcaldy on Tuesday, was used in both crimes.

Detective Inspector Graham Grant todl Forth News: "While the men were successful in gaining entry to the shop, they have been unable to steal the ATM and have left it in the street before making their escape.

"We are continuing our liaison with the store, but it appears nothing has been stolen at this time.

"This is the latest incident involving the stolen Audi from Kirkcaldy and officers from Fife, Midlothian and Edinburgh are all working together to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.

"If you have any information that can assist with these ongoing inquiries then please contact police immediately".
