Search completed after report of suspicious man in ERI

Police were called to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh shortly after 9am but no-one has been traced.

Police have completed a search of the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh after staff raised concern about a man acting suspiciously in the hospital.

They say no-one has been traced but they are still investigating.

Rumours spread of social media that the building had been evacuated but NHS Lothian told Forth News there was no formal evacuation and the hospital is operating as normal.

A statement from Police Scotland said, "Officers attended the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary at 9.06 am today, Thursday 22nd June, after staff became suspicious about a man seen in the hospital.

"Officers attended and made a search of the hospital along with NHS security.

"The man was not traced and further inquiries are being carried out to establish his reason for being at the hospital.

And Jim Crombie, NHS Lothian's Deputy Chief Executive gave us this update, "This morning, Police investigated reports of a suspicious individual at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh.

"Normal security protocols were followed, however there was no formal evacuation.

"A search of the hospital has been completed, the hospital is operating as normal and outpatients are being advised to attend their appointments as planned.
