It comes after the centres hit capacity due to a surge in unwanted animals.

The Scottish SPCA are reopening their centres to the public on an appointment-only basis, after closing their doors in March 2020 due to the pandemic.

Between March and December 2020, the number of animals rehomed by the charity fell by around 31% compared to the same period in 2019.

The charity's, Ally Bibby said: "We're really excited to welcome to the public back down to the centre - it's been a long year.

"It's just more from a rehoming point of view, it's more beneficial to the animals to start having people back down to the centre again.

"At the moment, we're just working by appointments only, so please don't come to the centre without an appointment.

"If you just give the helpline a phone, they'll direct you through to us and we'll book you an appointment to come down.

"The application process has been a great system for us - it's allowed us to have more of a selection when trying to find the right home for an animal."

All nine of the Scottish SPCA’s animal rescue and rehoming centres will be open for appointments from 1pm until 3.30pm, Friday to Monday from 17 May.
