An appeal has been issued by the Scottish SPCA after four Guinea pigs were found in a box on a doorstep of an Edinburgh resident on Newhaven Road.

They were alerted to the incident after a member of the public opened their front door to find the box of Guinea pigs on 5th December.

Scottish SPCA Inspector June Chalcroft said “The caller had the box delivered to them but it’s unknown who left it or when and there was no address on it for delivery or return.

“The box had some instructions on it to not turn it upside down or sideways but nothing else.

“The box contained four young Guinea pigs, straw and food.

“The Guinea pigs are now in the care of one of our animal rescue and rehoming centres, where they will receive the care they need.

“If anyone recognises these animals, please contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
