A roe deer has been found dead in an illegal snare in Fife.

A member of the public contacted the Scottish SPCA after they discovered a number of home-made snares in a small woodland area near North Queensferry last Thursday.

Specialist officers found the remains of a roe deer in one of the traps and believe the animal may have been caught in it up to two months ago.

The snare was made of bike brake cables and was set specifically to catch a deer, the SSPCA believe.

A spokesman said: With no stops on the snares it meant that the deer would have suffered an agonising death through suffocation and possibly suspension from a stone wall.

It is thought the deer had been caught in the snare about two months ago
