Scottish parents have welcomed some very special arrivals this morning, as they celebrate this year’s Christmas newborns.

One of this morning’s first arrivals interrupted her parent’s Christmas Eve movie night, arriving two weeks before her due date.

Anne-Marie Hunt and Gordon Wilson, of Livingston, were just settling down on Tuesday when their little one decided to make an earlier entrance.

She arrived at St John’s Hospital at 5.16am, weighing 6lbs 7oz, the pair are yet to decide on a name.

Ayrshire Maternity Unit perhaps had today’s first arrival though, with Lauren Sim delivering a baby girl at 12.30am, weighing in at 5lbs 8oz.

Shortly afterwards, at University Hospital Wishaw, Alyshia Glen and her partner Daniel McGhee of Bellshill met their daughter for the first time at 1.35am on Christmas Day.

The little one weighed 8lbs 6oz.

Just minutes later Emma McLaughlin gave birth to daughter Kiara Rose at 1.48am at Princess Royal Maternity Hospital in Glasgow, who tipped the scales at the same weight of 8lbs 6oz.

Back in Ayrshire, Yvonne and Paul Wilson welcomed their fourth child, a baby boy who weighed 5lbs 10oz at 3.16am.

He will be little brother to Millie age 16, Calum age 13 and Kieran age 7.

Next to arrive there was a baby boy for Sarah Ferguson and Kevin Hartshorn from Ayr.

Baby arrived at 6.57am and weighed 5lb and 3oz.

In a statement, the health board said: “Congratulations and Merry Christmas from all at NHS Ayrshire & Arran.
