How much are Scots obeying Covid guidance as Omicron spreads?
Latest survey results from the Office of National Statistics
Statistics on COVID-19 show that most Scots adhere to the First Minister’s guidance – but only to a point.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has published data showing that 98% of Scots are wearing masks, but not consistently when we’re in public spaces.
90% of people will opt to wear a mask when shopping, as seen in the crowds shopping for Christmas presents; however, less than half of public transport users will wear a face covering.

Travel takes biggest hit
When asked what areas of life have been most affected by Coronavirus restrictions, Scots felt that their travel plans have faced the most disruption – this comes after France has announced tougher rules around UK citizens travelling into the country.
Access to healthcare for non-covid related issues has also been of concern, with nearly half (46%) of Scots facing issues. Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar spoke at Holyrood yesterday about the delay in cancer treatments, he said that “almost one in five of the most urgent cancer cases are not starting treatment on time.”

Lateral Flow tests
Although a negative lateral flow test is an entry requirement to venues and events across Scotland, only around half (48%) of Scots asked said they had taken a lateral flow test in the last week.
The lack of testing could be attributed to the widespread shortage of rapid tests, leaving people unable to order tests for home delivery.
As we approach the second COVID-19 Christmas with limits on social gatherings – with fears mounting over the omicron variant, 4 out of 10 Scots believe it could be more than a year until life returns to normality.
