A man from Germany has appeared in court charged with sex attack in Edinburgh nearly three years ago.

A 19-year-old woman was said to have been assualted while she was walking home in Salisbury Place at around 2.50am back on Sunday October 2 2016.

Marco Groger, who's 31, made no plea to the charge of assault with intent to rape during a hearing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

He was granted bail while the case was continued for further examination.

Detectives at Police Scotland previously said they had been working with authorities in Germany to extradite a man in connection with the case.

Detective Sergeant David Brady from the PPU said: "This has been a complex inquiry that has required continued engagement with colleagues in Germany and we are grateful for their assistance."
