Rural projects to benefit from £60million of funding

Around 1,000 rural projects, from flood prevention to organic farming, are to benefit from #60 million of funding.

The money from the Agri-Environment Climate Scheme will be released over the next five years to land managers and rural businesses.

Other projects set to gain include improving public access to the countryside, protecting vulnerable species and habitats and work to improve water quality.

Rural Economy Secretary Fergus Ewing said farmers and land managers in rural Scotland are the custodians of our countryside''.

They play a crucial role in protecting and promoting our natural environment,'' he added.

This funding will help almost 1,000 projects in their work to enhance our magnificent natural heritage, improve water quality, manage flood risk and tackle climate change - playing a significant part in our efforts to protect our land, habitats, species, air and rivers.
