Record Sales For Festival Tickets
The Edinburgh International Festival has enjoyed record ticket sales on the first day of public sales, organisers have announced. Culture enthusiasts have been snapping up tickets for this year's event which features the likes of Juliette Binoche, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Lang Lang, Sufjan Stevens, Franz Ferdinand & Sparks and Max Richter. Organisers said that first day sales are set to top £370,000, a record first day income with approximately 70% of tickets sold online at eif.co.uk. This year's Edinburgh International Festival runs from Friday August 7 to Monday August 31 and will welcome more than 2,300 participants from 39 nations. Festival chiefs said that this year's hot tickets include Ivo van Hove's production of Antigone, Mozart's Requiem, the Komische Oper and 1927 theatre company's production of The Magic Flute, Budapest Festival Orchestra's The Marriage of Figaro and the Citizens Theatre's production of Lanark. Tickets can be bought online now at eif.co.uk, by calling 0131 473 2000 and in person at Hub Tickets, Castlehill, Edinburgh. From Monday 30 March tickets can be bought at the Edinburgh Playhouse, Festival Theatre, King's Theatre, The Queen's Hall, Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh and the Usher Hall.
