She was found at Holyroodhouse last week

A cockatiel with a crown of blonde hair has been nicknamed Queenie'' after making herself at home in the grounds of the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

The bird was spotted by guards in the royal estate in Edinburgh on Thursday, the day of the Queen's 90th birthday.

Staff called the Scottish SPCA, which has now taken Queenie into care while they seek her owner.

Animal rescue officer Steph Grant said: It was quite funny that the cockatiel landed in the grounds of the palace on the Queen's 90th birthday.

With the lovely weather we've been enjoying, it's quite likely she escaped from home after her owner left a door or window open.

We'd love to reunite Queenie with her owner and we're sure they'll be surprised to learn where she was found.

If no-one comes forward for Queenie, we'll find her a suitable new home.''
