A protest against Edinburgh Council's plans to transform Currie High School in to a so-called 'super school' will take place today.

Parents and members of the 'Save Our Schools' group will hold a demonstration outside the city chambers at 3pm today.

They are against proposals by the local authority to merge Currie High and Wester Hailes Education Centre in order to deal with growing class sizes.

They instead want more funding for the current buildings.

Mum Lee Picken is from the Juniper Green Parent Council and says: "Maybe 50 years ago the church was the centre of the community but now it is very much the schools. To take the school away destroys the reason we moved here in the first place and makes it something that these little villages don't need to be.

"For them to take the risk with these children's education is just not acceptable to parents from anywhere. Everyone just wants the best for their children, this is not unique to Currie or Wester Hailes, that's what everybody wants."
