Programme for 70th Edinburgh Fringe Festival launched

The programme for the 70th year of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival has been launched today.

There are some big names in the line-up including Irvine Welsh, Judy Murray and Britain's Got Talent winner Tokio Myers.

Scottish comedian Craig Ferguson, who hasn't performed at the event for 24 years, returns to the festival this year.

There will also be performances by comedians Ruby Wax, Sue Perkins and Sean Hughes.

For the first time Easter Road Stadium will also be used as a venue. A play called 'A Field of Our Own' is about the origins of Hibernian football club and will be held there.

Other odd venues featured are the Novotel swimming pool, where 'Brodsky Station' by 274 Theatre Company.

The Fringe Festival was created in 1947 when eight theatre groups performed at the Edinburgh International Festival to lift the mood following the Second World War.
