Most popular baby names across Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife revealed

The most popular names for babies across Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife for 2017 have been revealed.

In the capital, Alexander narrowly pipped James and Oliver as the favourite for boys, while Isla was the most popular name for girls.

Scotland-wide Jack and Olivia were the top choices and that was also the case in East Lothian this year and in Midlothian - although James was joint top for boys names there.

In Fife Jack and Emily were the most common choices, and in West Lothian it was Jacob for boys, while Emily and Olivia were joint top for girls.

In Falkirk it was Lewis and Oliver for boys, and Lily for girls.

What about elsewhere in Scotland?

Muhammad was top for boys by some way in Glasgow, while Harris proved popular in the Highlands, Angus and South Ayrshire.

Finn was top in the Western Isles.

For girls Evie was top in Moray, and Orla was the most common in Inverclyde. Ella was the most popular in the Orkney Islands.
