Police are investigating two apparent attempts to abduct young girls from close to schools in Edinburgh - but they don't think the cases are linked.

The latest incident happened last Friday morning (Feb 5) at 8.40am.

A man described as 'well-dressed' pulled up in a 4x4 alongside a child as she walked to Craigour Park Primary.

Reports suggest the man claimed he was a family friend but the girl ran off to raise the alarm.

In a statement, police said, "The child was unharmed however police are carrying out various lines of inquiry as part of their ongoing investigation and are in contact with the City of Edinburgh Council Education Department.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.”

Three days earlier, on Tuesday (Feb 2) a girl was approached by a man in a vehicle on Whitehouse Road as she walked home from Cramond Primary at around 3.15pm.

Officers have been carrying out extra patrols in the area and children have been given extra safety advice.
