Police have named a man who died following a crash near Gorebridge yesterday (Friday).

Robert Boa - known to his friends as Gary - was driving a black Seat Ibiza on the B7007 Innerleithen Road when it was involved in a collision with a white Scania tipper truck.

The crash happened between Borthwick and Dewar around 3.30pm.

Emergency services were quick to respond but the 52-year-old, from Walkerburn, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road - which links Midlothian with the Borders - was closed for around six hours while the wreckage was cleared and police examined the scene.

Sergeant Jennifer Forbes, from Police Scotland's Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with Mr Boa’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“Our enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing and I would urge anyone with information who hasn’t yet spoken to a police officer to come forward.

“Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2048 of 3 September, 2021.”
