Police name "well-liked local man" killed in Bathgate crash

Police have named the 65-year-old man killed after being knocked down by a car in Bathgate in the early hours of Monday morning

The family of a man killed after being knocked down in Bathgate on Monday have paid tribute to him as a "well-liked local man."

65-year-old Michael Slevin was hit by a car near to the junction with Ladeside Road, outside the Happy Valley Hotel.

It happened shortly after midnight on Monday morning (February 17th).

He was taken by ambulance to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he died a short time later.

A 45-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and has been released pending further enquiry.

Michael’s family have released the following statement through Police Scotland:

“Michael was a well-liked local man and he will be sorely missed by all his friends and family.

“Our family would like to thank both the professionals and members of the public who assisted at the scene. We would appreciate our privacy at this very difficult time.”
