A cyclist who died following a collision in West Lothian has been named by police.

Gwyndaf Bailey from Livingston was heading east along the A89 near Dechmont on Wednesday February 27 when he was involved in a collision with a car

The Mercedes C220 was heading in the opposite direction near the access road to Bangour Hospital at the time.

Paramedics were called to the scene at around 5.20pm, but the 37-year-old died from his injuries on the way to hospital.

The 45-year-old behind the wheel of the car was unhurt.

The road was closed for seven hours while emergency services investigated.

Sergeant Brian Smith from Livingston’s Road Policing Unit said: “Sadly as a result of the collision the cyclist lost his life and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

“A number of people who were driving on the road at the time stopped to assist and we are thankful to them for their assistance.

“I’d ask anyone who may have witnessed the collision, and has not yet spoken to officers, to come forward to assist with our inquiries.

"Any driver who may have dash-cam footage is also asked to get in touch and provide this at their earliest opportunity.”
