Police in Fife are appealing for witnesses following an attempted murder in Lochgelly on Saturday 30th April.

The incident happened shortly before 9:55pm when a 22-year-old man was assaulted outside the Premier Stores on Francis Street; the altercation then continued into Knockhill Close.

He was taken to hospital for medical treatment where he is said to be in a stable condition.

A cordon is currently in place at the scene of the assault whilst forensic officers examine the area.

This is part of an extensive investigation led by local CID officers who are today appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Inspector Jim Leeson who is based in Glenrothes said: "At this early stage of our inquiry we are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area around the time of this violent attack to come forward.

"We believe that the incident started outside the convenience shop and then continued into Knockhill Close behind, where the man was seriously injured.

"Fortunately, and thanks to the assistance of medical staff at the Victoria Hospital, the man is now in a stable condition.

"We are following a positive line of inquiry into this matter however I urge anyone with relevant information to come forward immediately."
