Police investigate mystery clothing discovery at Gullane
Police are worried someone may have gone into the water
Police are concerned someone may have gone into the water at Gullane Beach, after discarded clothes were found nearby.
The clothing was discovered by a member of the public just north of Muirfield Golf Club shortly before 5.30pm on Wednesday August 22.
It was not immediately obvious who it belonged to.
The clothes included a khaki-coloured M&S jacket with flowers on the right side, a red M&S long-sleeved t-shirt and red leather shoes with laces and white soles.
A search of the beach was carried out by the local policing team and supported by the Dog Unit and Coastguard, but no one was found.
Officers have also established that there are currently no reports of any missing people who would have been wearing clothing matching those found.
Sergeant Crawford Laing said: "While we have had no reports of any missing women wearing clothing such as this, we will continue to conduct local enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this incident.
"There may be a perfectly simple explanation for these items being left on the beach and anyone who knows who they belong to is asked to come forward."
Those with information can contact Haddington Police Station via 101 and quote incident number 2934 of August 22.
