Police closer to bringing killer of Fife grandmother to justice
A member of the local community could still hold a vital piece of information which helps catch the killer of a grandmother beaten to death in her own home, according to a senior detective.
Mary Logie, 82, was found dead in the living-room of her flat in the Green Gates area of Leven, Fife, at about 8pm on Tuesday January 5.
She had been bludgeoned with a rolling pin in an attack described by officers as a ''brutal'' and ''horrific''. The murder sparked a major investigation but police have not yet made an arrest.
The officer leading the inquiry, Detective Chief Inspector Keith Hardie of the major investigation team, said an apparently small piece of information could prove vital to the murder hunt.
Speaking exactly two weeks on from the pensioner's death, he said: My team is following a number of positive lines of inquiry, however I'm confident that someone in the local community has crucial information that can help solve this dreadful murder.
I want to speak to anyone who saw Mary in the hours before her death to please come forward.A seemingly innocuous piece of information might make all the difference in the wider context of this investigation.''
Mrs Logie was last seen alive at 8am on January 5 and police now strongly believe she was killed some time that morning.
High-visibility police patrols are continuing in the Green Gates area to reassure the local community as the investigation continues.
A mobile incident vehicle also remains outside the victim's home, where members of the public can speak to officers.
Mr Hardie added: There has been a strong response from residents whose patience at this important time of the investigation is greatly appreciated and I can offer my personal reassurance that we are doing everything we can to trace Mrs Logie's killer.''
