Police believe four thefts at convenience stores in East Lothian and the Scottish Borders are linked.
The first attempted housebreaking happened around 2.45am on Wednesday 23 March at a convenience store on Main Street, Ormiston.
Two suspects were wearing hoodies, gloves and a scarf covering their face.
The second incident happened around 2.40am on Friday 25 March at a convenience store on Peebles Road, Innerleithen.
A glass window was smashed and a quantity of cigarettes was stolen.
Again the two suspects were wearing hoodies, gloves and a scarf covering their face.
The third incident happened around 11pm on Thursday 7 April at a petrol station on Melrose Road, Galashiels.
A quantity of cigarettes was stolen and the two suspects were wearing the same clothing as before.
The fourth incident happened around 1.45am on Friday 8 April at a convenience store in Earlston.
A glass window was smashed and the two suspects stole cigarettes.
Detective Sergeant Adrian Dixon, of Galashiels Police Station, said: "We believe these incidents may be linked, and we're asking anyone who remembers seeing two people around that time matching those descriptions to contact us.
"It's also possible that the noise of glass windows being smashed may have caught someone's attention, and again we would urge them to contact us if they saw anything suspicious."
