Police appeal after historic Dunfermline statue damaged
Police are appealing for information after the Mercat Cross statue in Dunfermline was damaged.
Two men were seen climbing the historic landmark on the High Street overnight between Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th April.
Officers say they’re following a positive line of enquiry and are now urging the individuals involved – or anyone who knows them – to come forward.
The first man is described as white, in his early 20s, around 5ft 8 or 9ins tall, with a slim build, brownish hair, thick eyebrows, sideburns, and an earring in his left ear. He was wearing a light blue hoodie, tan trousers, and white or light-coloured trainers.
The second is also white, in his early 20s, about 5ft 9 or 10ins tall with a medium build, brown hair – long and messy on top, short on the sides – and short stubble. He was wearing a thin black jacket with small writing on the shoulder, a black t-shirt with a white logo and yellow graphic, black joggers, and grey Nike Air Max trainers.
Inspector Conrad Musgrave from Dunfermline Police Station said: “The statue is very old and important to the people of Dunfermline and the surrounding area. Extensive enquiries have been carried out, including full CCTV reviews from the local area and nearby premises. We are now asking the males responsible to please come forward.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1093 of Sunday 13 April.
