PIRC launches investigation in to death at Edinburgh police station

The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner has launched an investigation in to a death at an Edinburgh police station.

A 32-year-old man died while in police custody at St Leonard's station on December 11.

A spokesperson for the PIRC’s Investigation Team said: “We are investigating the death in custody of a 32-year-old man at St. Leonards Police Station in Edinburgh on 11 December 2018.

“The investigation will focus on the circumstances leading up to the man’s death.

“The incident was referred to the PIRC by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) and a report will be submitted to them in due course."
