Police are treating an attack in Edinburgh's Pilton area, in which a motorcyclist was knocked off his bike by a car, driven at and attacked by a man, as attempted murder.
Officers were called to Pilton Avenue around 10pm on Sunday the 23rd of January, following reports of a collision between a black BMW and an off-road motorbike.
They have since said that the biker was deliberately driven at and while on the ground, before a man got out the BMW and attacked him.
The suspect, described as being aged around 30, white, around 5 feet 9 inches in height, of slim build and wearing a dark coloured hooded top and dark coloured trousers, made off on foot towards Pilton Place.
The motorcyclist was taken to hospital with a serious leg injury and the car involved is now being analysed by forensics experts.
Extra police presence
Police have issued an appeal for information, while they continue to carry out door-to-door enquiries in the area.
Detective Inspector Kevin Tait said: “While we do not know the motive for this assault, we believe it was a targeted attack.
"I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to contact us. Particularly if you have any recording devices, such as dash cam or doorbell cameras.
"A police presence will remain in the area as we continue our enquiries.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3489 of 23 January, 2022, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
