Old Royal High Redevelopment Plan Rejected

Edinburgh City Council has narrowly voted down a proposal to transform the Old Royal High building into a luxury five star hotel.

After a meeting spanning hours councillors voted by eight votes to seven to reject the application.

While supporters argued that a new luxury hotel would create thousands of jobs over the years, opponents warned that the redevelopment might significantly damage one of Edinburgh's most iconic buildings.

The decision was welcomed by the Old Royal High School Preservation Trust which hopes the Council will now consider moving St Mary's Music School into the building.
