Officers release fresh details about sexual assault at Edinburgh graveyard

Officers investigating a report of sexual assault within Greyfriars Kirkyard, Edinburgh, are appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity to come forward.

Police investigating a sexual assault in a graveyard are appealing to anyone who was in a nearby bar on the same evening to come forward.

A woman was assaulted in Greyfriars Kirkyard in Edinburgh's Old Town on Thursday.

Officers want to speak to anyone who was in the area of the kirkyard and the nearby Frankenstein bar on George IV Bridge between 9.30 and 10.30pm.

They are also appealing for anyone who saw a woman and a man leaving the kirkyard at around 10.30pm to make themselves known.

An extensive inquiry'' is under way into the incident. Detective Inspector Tom Carty said:We're currently pursuing a number of lines of inquiry and as a result of this work, we've established that a group of males and females were within the bar prior to this attack.

I want to hear from anyone who may have have been in the premises on Thursday evening to contact police.''
