EXCLUSIVE: NHS Louisa Jordan licence at SEC in Glasgow could be extended

Forth 1 understands the Scottish Government is currently in talks to potentially extend the licence of the NHS Louisa Jordan at the Scottish Event Campus in Glasgow.

It was built in April 2020 at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, but has never been used to treat COVID-19 patients.

In July, it was revealed the emergency hospital would receive its first patients by hosting some orthopaedic outpatient consultations as the NHS began to recover from the early stages of the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

It was due to be decommissioned by the end of April 2021 - but Forth 1 understands that could be extended until the end of July 2021.

Although it's thought a few of those months would be required for decommissioning the hospital.

It comes after several days of record high numbers of positive covid tests in Scotland this week.

A Scottish Government spokesperson said: "The NHS Louisa Jordan, which has not been required to treat COVID-19 patients as we have been able to retain capacity in NHS Scotland thanks to continued collective effort to tackle this pandemic, continues to play a vital role in NHS re-mobilisation plans.

"There are no immediate plans to decommission the site and as we have made clear throughout the pandemic, we will retain the facility to ensure we have capacity to treat COVID patients if required and remobilise NHS Scotland."
