We can reveal new details about Edinburgh's hire bike scheme.

It's set to launch on the 17th of September and will begin with a handful of city centre stations in locations like Bristo Square and Pollock Halls.

Once it is complete the network will stretch from Heriot Watt University in the west of the city to Portobello in the east.

Cyclists will pat £3 to hire a bike for the day and £90 for a year-long subscription.

Bikes can also be picked up and dropped off at any of the stations.

Matt McNaulty from Serco - the company behind the scheme says: "There's evidence all over the world that cycling opens up cities to tourists in lots of different ways. We're looking at how we engage with that, make people aware of that and aware of the bikes before they even get to the city. It's so that it becomes a first choice.

"We expect by Christmas to have 80 different stations across the city."
