Scottish brothers Neil and Andrew Simpson are savouring their second Paralympic medal in their debut games after winning gold in the men's visually-impaired Super-G skiing - the 1st gold medal for Team GB at Beijing.

19-year-old Neil was left with work to do after a mistake on the Super-G but moved up to third place after a strong performance in slalom.

Simpson said: "I think, with the mistake in the first run, coming into the slalom we knew we had to charge, and we had nothing to lose going in to the second run.

"I skied a lot of slalom when I was younger as you have no choice growing up in Scotland and it's something I really enjoy. I was so tired after the gold medal yesterday I just had some food and went to bed so we were in the right mindset today."

The duo found themselves in fifth place after an error but an impressive performance in the slalom saw them finish in the medal places with a time of 1:52.81.

Italy's Bertagnolli, who finished behind the brothers in the super-G skiing, won gold.

The 19-year-old and his 21-year-old brother are just the third members of Team GB to have achieved winter games gold medals. Menna Fitzpatrick in 2018 and Kelly Gallagher in 2014 were Team GB's two previous winners.

Director of High Performance at sportscotland, Mike Whittingham, said: “To win a second medal of their debut Games is a remarkable achievement for Neil and Andrew Simpson. They have worked incredibly hard for these moments and they deserve huge credit for their performances under real pressure. Congratulations to them both.”
