The mum of a 10-year old boy seriously injured when he was knocked over by a stolen motorbike in a hit and run in Edinburgh is describing her son as a 'wee trooper'.
In a post on Facebook, she says the child has several broken bones and she is 'so proud' of his bravery.
The boy was struck on the city’s Ferry Road when the bike’s rider ran a red light at a pedestrian crossing close to Drylaw Police Station at about 6.35pm on Saturday.
Police say they are knocking on doors in the area as they hunt the rider and are also trawling through CCTV footage.
Two motorbikes sped through the crossing and it was the second one, a Triumph Daytona 650cc, which hit the child.
The rider carried on for a short distance before abandoning the motorbike and running off.
He was wearing a grey hooded top, dark tracksuit bottoms and a white full face helmet with a coloured design on it.
Both motorcyclists had scarves covering their faces.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Grainger said: "This was a terrifying incident which could easily have had fatal consequences.
"Both the boys mother and I would urge anybody that has any information to contact the police.
"This young boy was going about his own business, making a routine crossing of a busy road at what should have been a safe pedestrian crossing when he was mown down by this motorcycle."
Locals have told Forth News that despite the collision on Saturday, youths were again out on motorbikes in the area on Sunday.
The issue of motorbike crime in north Edinburgh is something highlighting by Forth News recently with our Break the Cycle campaign.
