The minimum unit pricing of alcohol in Scotland is going to increase to 65p.

Deputy First Minister and Finance Secretary announced the change in a statement this afternoon and it is expected the new legislation will be passed in Parliament next week.

She said: "I'm clear that alcohol continues to cause significant health harm to too many people in this country," she said.

"We, as a government, are determined to do all we can to reduce alcohol harm."

The new minimum unit price will come into force from the end of September.

Ministers hope it will help to reduce alcohol-related deaths across Scotland.
