Mindless thieves steal defibrillator from outside Fife shop
Thieves have stolen a potentially life-saving piece of kit from a shop in Fife.
A defibrillator was taken from a secure cabinet outside the Co-operative on High Street, Burntisland, at about 2.30 am on Monday.
It was first installed by Burntisland First Aid Services Trust in May 2015 after around #850 was raised by the local community.
Constable Pat Devaney, of Kirkcaldy police station, said: This piece of equipment is vital as it is used to provide medical assistance to people suffering heart attacks and other heart-related emergencies.
I would urge whoever took it to return it to its rightful place.''
The defibrillator was previously stolen three months after being installed but was soon returned.
No-one has had to use the kit, which administers an electric shock to the heart during or after a cardiac arrest, for an emergency.
Police Scotland urged anyone with information to contact officers in Kirkcaldy by calling 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800555111, quoting incident number 2276 of June 26
