Five men have admitted threatening staff in a bank in Edinburgh with axes and stealing almost ÂŁ20,000.

They targeted a branch of Royal Bank of Scotland in Tollcross at around midday on 2nd October last year.

At the High Court in Glasgow, Aaron Brannan, 23, Jason Britton, 22, Jason Yendall, 29, Gordon McLay, 31, and Alistair Oliver, 30, pled guilty to the raid and are due to be sentenced next month.

Three of the men, Brannan, Britton and Yendall also admitted stealing watches worth £200,000 at Glasgow’s Argyle Arcade in September last year.

Detective Inspector Stuart Harkness from Edinburgh CID said: “The incident within the Tollcross RBS in October last year was a terrifying experience for the staff and customers who were within the branch at the time.

“Thankfully no one was injured, however, a large sum of cash was taken and a major investigation was launched to trace those responsible.

“Once it had been confirmed the same men had been involved in the Glasgow robbery, officers in Edinburgh worked closely with colleagues in the west and all of the suspects were apprehended".
