Raith Rovers have confirmed manager John McGlynn and his assistant Paul Smith are leaving the club, amid rumours linking the former Hearts boss with a move to League One side Falkirk.

The Starks Park outfit released a statement confirming the news, saying the pair would depart by mutual consent following the expiry of their contracts this month.

It read: "We offer of thanks to John and Paul for their service to the club, and salute their achievements since returning to Stark’s Park in September 2018.

"The Board can also confirm that we will be actively looking to appoint a new management team to take the club forward, and will be starting the recruitment process with immediate effect."

McGlynn led Rovers to the Challenge Cup, in what has proved to be the final season of his second spell in charge of the club.

However the campaign had been overshadowed by the controversial signing of David Goodwillie in January.

The striker didn't play for the team following a backlash from supporters.

Despite a promising start in the Championship, the side also missed out on a place in the promotion play-offs, finishing fifth in the table.

We've been getting reaction from fans.

Allan Russell is Chairman of the Raith Supporters Trust, he told Forth 1:

"I'm really disappointed that we couldn't keep John and Paul at the club.

"Also surprised that they've chosen to step down a level, they're one of the most professional and well organised teams in the Championship and I thought they'd have had their sights set upwards rather than downwards."

On who should take over next, no names immediately come to mind for Allan, but he does suggest whoever it is will have a lot to live up to, saying:

"I'm sure there'll be lots of applicants, as there always are.

"Raith Rovers is a big job, and not just anybody can walk in and do such great things as John and Paul have done.

"There are big footsteps to follow in."
