A manhunt is underway after a spate of armed robberies across West Lothian and Fife today.

Post offices in Linlithgow, Kincardine, Cowdenbeath and Burntisland have all been targeted.

The female shopkeeper in Kincardine was also assaulted by the robber, who was carrying a weapon.

Detective Inspector Colin Robson from Dunfermline CID said: “These incidents were extremely alarming for the staff involved and we are providing each of those affected with all the support they require.

“We believe the same male was responsible for each of these crimes.”

The robber first hit Linlithgow post office, where he made off with cash from the till at around 11.25am.

He then tried, unsuccessfully, to get behind the counter of the Cowdenbeath branch at approximately 12.15pm.

His next target was Burnisland High Street post office at around 12.40pm, where it is thought he threatened staff at knifepoint.

He ended his spree at 2.15pm in Kincardine.

The suspect is described as being white, in his thirties, with a stocky build and stubbly complexion. He was wearing dark clothing and a high visibility jacket.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101.
