A man's suffered severe facial injuries following a 'brutal' assault in Edinburgh.

The incident happened on Saughton Road North at around 2am Saturday September 3.

It's understood the 26-year-old left a pub, along with a friend, and was attacked by a number of men who fled the scene after being picked up by a passing vehicle.

The victim suffered several facial injuries and was taken the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment. He has since been transferred to St John’s Hospital to undergo surgery for his injuries.

Police are now investigating and are appealing to the public for information.

They are particularly keen to speak the driver of a black coloured vehicle, which was temporarily parked outside Scotmid on Saughton Road North at around 1.40am.

Officers believe the driver may have witnessed the incident, or may have seen either the victim or suspects beforehand.

Detective Constable Peter Stark of Corstorphine CID said: “This was a brutal attack, which has left the victim with severe facial injuries which require surgery.

“We are particularly keen to speak to the driver of the black-coloured vehicle that was seen in the area at the time of the attack.

“We would urge the driver, or anyone else who was in the area, to come forward and contact us immediately.”

Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
