Man struck by falling masonry in Edinburgh city centre

A man's been taken to hospital after being struck by masonry from the Balmoral Hotal in Edinburgh city centre.

The accident happened on Princes Street at the junction with North Bridge at 10.50am today.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital with a head injury which is not believed to be life threatening.

In a statement, police said: "We were called to the junction of North Bridge and Princes Street at 10.50am on Friday 15th December following a report that masonry had struck a pedestrian.

"The man has been taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by the Scottish Ambulance Service.

"The Health & Safety Executive and City of Edinburgh Council have been contacted."
