A man has been left badly injured after he was knocked unconscious during a mugging in Leith on Saturday night. The 32-year-old victim was struck on the head from behind as he walked home towards Ocean Terminal along North Junction Street at around 7.30pm. When he woke up, his belongings were scattered around him and he went into a nearby shop for help and an ambulance was called. His mobile phone and black Nike jacket had been stolen. He has since been released from Edinburgh Royal Infirmary but may need further surgery to facial injuries and has been left with very little memopry of what happened. Detective Constable Carole Sneddon said: "This was a vicious attack, which has left the victim with significant injuries. "Due to the nature of the assault, the victim has very little knowledge of the incident, however it took place in a busy thoroughfare and several people may have seen the incident take place. "We are eager to speak to anyone who may have information".
