Man Dies After Monument Incident

A man who fell from the Scott Monument in Edinburgh has died.

Police and the ambulance service was called to the scene at around 9.30am, and there was major disruption in the city centre.

All traffic was diverted as officers attended and trams were forced to run a reduced service.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police were called to Princes Street Gardens after a man was reported to have fallen from the Scott Monument at around 9.30am.

"The 41-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene and it is believed there are no suspicious circumstances.''
