Man dies after being struck by Edinburgh tram

A man has died after being struck by an Edinburgh tram.

The accident happened at the Saughton stop on Broomhouse Drive just after noon.

Emergency services rushed to the scene but they were unable to save the man.

A statement from Police Scotland says: “Police were called to Saughton Tram Stop at around 12.15pm on Tuesday 11th September following a collision between a tram and a pedestrian.

"The man suffered serious injuries and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. No-one else was hurt in the collision.

"Tram services remain suspended whilst officers carry out a collision investigation."
